MI-PLAST is a manufacturer and R&D performing company based in Rijeka, Croatia, founded in 1993. The main activity is the processing of polyoefin materials; packaging and production of new materials, compounding as well as regeneration. The products obtained by processing of polyoefins and polyoefins waste are mainly used in the construction sector, agriculture and in retail sector. These products are: agriculture mulch, shopping bags, garbage bags, construction film foils, and lamination foils etc. The company is placing its products mainly to the countries in the South Eastern Europe, Slovenia and Italy. MI-PLAST provides agriculture products to public institutions in the field of agriculture and to private companies. The company markets its products through its retail channels and by direct contact with customers.

MI-PLAST is a member of Croatian Economy Chamber and Croatian plastic and rubber products manufacturers association. The company is constantly trying to invest in modernisation of the production process through R&D projects and aims at increasing innovative green products range and bioeconomy.

In the framework of PULPACKTION Mi-Plast aims to develop a new generation of flexible films for primary packaging or packaging which is in directly contact with food. Decreased use of base material is expected as a result of new bio-based coatings. Mi-Plast will dedicate several machines and several processes (cast extrusion and blown extrusion) including coating and an off-line printing unit. Mi-Plast will work at TRL 5-10.

Main tasks

As expert on films extrusion and co-extrusion MI-PLAST will:

  • Establish a process for extrusion and co-extrusion obtaining flexible bio- films
  • Cast or blown extrusioned films will be used as coating materials for the different moulded packages and for the development of layers to obtain top lid for trays
  • MI-PLAST will also implement optimization of final formulation to guarantee industrial processability and maintain advanced properties
